5A Very Capable Immersion Blender
By Robert Jones
Mixing - The two speed operation is handy. For making soups, you can do most of the job on low speed, even with chunky vegetables. This makes it easier to control how thick the final product is, and it makes for less possibility of splash-ups. The switch feel is sure (good tactile feel). The blade is stocky and sharp - it looks like it's built for business. I blended a large pot of tomato black bean garlic soup down in under 30 seconds.

Motor - Plenty of power. It's quiet compared to my last blender (especially on low), which was 3x the price. I cannot comment on durability yet, as this is a new model.

Size/weight/feel - Hefty, but not heavy. It has a quality feel with a nice balance. If it were too light, it would feel cheap.

Cord - Long enough to get the job done, but not too long to make wrapping up the cord a hassle.

Assembly/Cleaning - Easy to attach/detach. The lock-up feels solid. So far, there's little mechani cal play in the interface. It's very easy to clean by hand if you don't wait for it to dry up.

I've grown to like Cuisinart products. It looks like they have a winner here.

4/10/2013 update - I've had this for several months now, and I can say the concern about the plastic gear on the prior version does not appear to be an issue on this design. I've used it dozens of times and there is not a hint of wear. Bumping to 5 stars. It's one of my favorite kitchen tools.

5Blender
By Aurianne
The blender is bigger than I expected, but it will be perfect for blending soups or smoothies. I got the red one and fortunately it doesn't look so rubbery red as the picture makes it seem, its same polished plastic as the other colors :) It's pretty quiet and easy to operate, I hope it will last awhile. I also love the measuring cup it came with.

4Stick blender works better than any full size blender I've owned
By Molly Ray
I had one of those combo food processor/blenders die on me a couple months ago, and I had to decide how to replace both items. In the end, I went with this stick blender, and I'm thrilled I did. Not only is it nice to store something so small, but it's so much easier than a blender. Nothing ever gets stuck at the bottom since I just move the stick around. It makes soups a ton easier since I don't have to do any transfers. My only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that you have to have the right amount of stuff to blend to make sure the stick is fully immersed (or else make a crazy mess with everything flying everywhere). I had a smaller soup recipe that did require that I hold the pot up so the stuff collected on one side and I could blend with the stick. Still, I think that was easier than transferring to a blender to puree, and I also think of the countless times my blender would just stop because stuff got stuck around the blades. No more with this! I've only had it a short while, so I can't speak to the longevity, but I honestly don't mind having to buy another one at this price if I know it will work better than any of the more expensive blenders I've bought (and had die).
